CFA and Energy Advocacy Groups Submit Comments on Energy Conservation Standards for Consumer Furnace Fans
The Consumer Federation of America, the Appliance Standards Awareness Project, ACEEE, and NCLC submitted comments to the Department of Energy (DOE), strongly opposing any weakening of the current furnace fan efficiency standards, arguing that doing so would violate the anti-backsliding provision of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA). The letter emphasizes that the 2014 standards, in effect since 2019, have delivered substantial cost savings for consumers, improved fan performance, and reduced strain on the electric grid. Weakening the standards would increase household utility bills, exacerbate grid stress amid rising electricity demand, and waste past investments by U.S. manufacturers.
