CFA Comments on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Recognition of Foreign Food Inspection Systems

CFA submitted the following comments in response to the Food and Drug Administration’s recent public hearing on “Strategic Partnerships to Enhance the Safety of Imported Foods: Capacity Building, Recognition of Commodity Food Control, and Systems Recognition.” The comments emphasize the need for adequate controls to ensure the safety of food imports as the proportion of imported food in American diets increases, and call for transparency in FDA’s process for designating certain food safety systems as “comparable.”
