CFA joins consumer and public health organizations in call for a cancer warning statement on alcoholic beverages

CFA submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) asking TTB to undertake a congressional reporting process provided for by the Alcoholic Beverage Labeling Act of 1988, with the objective of amending the health warning statement required to appear on all alcoholic beverage labels. Research indicates that as little as one drink per day increases the risk of certain cancers, and that alcohol is the third leading contributor to cancer in women. Yet fewer than half of American adults are aware of the link between alcohol and cancer. The letter argues that a cancer warning should help to address that discrepancy.
