In comments filed by the Consumer Federation of America (CFA), Consumers Union, Consumer Action and Consumer Federation of California, the consumer groups urged the California Energy Commission (CEC) to move as quickly as possible to finalize California’s first-in-the-nation proposed energy efficiency standards for computers and monitors. The filing highlights that the proposed standards pass the consumer pocketbook test with flying colors. The benefits far exceed the costs and they are product-neutral, technology-neutral, pro-competitive, responsive to consumer needs and responsive to industry needs. The groups concluded that the energy savings projection of over $400 million annually on electricity bills was probably too low.
