CFA Urges CFPB to Address Additional Consumer Protection Issues Outside of Current Scope of Proposed Payday Rule

As the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau works to finalize a proposed rule that would address payday and other high-cost loans, Consumer Federation of America and other consumer and civil rights organizations are calling on the CFPB to address additional potential consumer protection issues presented by loans both covered and not covered by the proposed payday lending rule. There remain significant consumer protection concerns in these lending markets, including lenders making non-covered loans without regard to the borrower’s ability to repay as scheduled.
