CFA Urges CPSC to Adopt Standards to Protect Consumers from Flame Retardants in Children's Products
Under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has explicit authority to protect consumers from the health hazards caused by the use of non-polymeric, additive form, organohalogen flame retardants in children’s products, furniture, mattresses and the casings surrounding electronics. Warning consumers of hazards would not adequately protect consumers from the adverse health impacts. Thus, CFA urges the Commission to use its authority to protect consumers from these flame retardants.
