Consumer Advocates Oppose Bill to Allow Misleading “Natural” Claims

CFA joined Consumer Reports, Center for Science in the Public Interest, and National Consumers League in the urging congressional leaders to shelf H.R. 4487 - The Codifying Useful Regulatory Definitions (CURD) Act. The bill would allow cheese producers to use the term “natural” in a way that would mislead consumers. It would also undercut efforts already underway at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to define “natural” in a way that meets consumer expectations.
