Consumer and Citizen Groups Express Serious Concerns About Google Fitbit Takeover

In a public statement, 20 leading consumer and citizen groups, including CFA, expressed significant concerns that Google’s proposed acquisition of wearables manufacturer Fitbit would have dangerous implications, not only for how people interact with the online world, but also for digital and related health markets. They called on regulators around the world – in particular those concerned with antitrust compliance and data privacy – to scrutinize the deal, a likely test case for how enforcement authorities will address the immense power a handful of tech giants wield in the digital economy.
