Consumer Groups Oppose Push to Repeal Menu Labeling Law

Default News Placeholder 6

CFA and its allies ask Congress to support consumer choice and American’s health and oppose the Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act of 2017. The bill defies common sense by undercutting the Food and Drug Administration’s menu labeling rules just weeks before they are schedule to go into effect on May 5, 2017, over seven years after the menu labeling law’s passage. Food establishments across the country are already posting calorie information on menus, demonstrating that it can be done in a reasonable space and at a reasonable cost. The proposed bill would deny industry leaders a level playing field and prevent many consumers from making informed choices about how many calories to eat at a time when obesity rates are at a record high.
