Letter to FHFA Regarding Insurance Use of FHLBanks

The Consumer Federation of America, The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, The Local Initiatives Support Corporation, The National Leased Housing Association and other housing and consumer advocacy organizations sent a letter to The Federal Housing Finance Agency Director, Sandra Thompson, in response to a RFI on the “Mission” of Federal Home Loan Banks. The letter focuses on insurance company members of Federal Home Loan Banks.
The letter proposes a membership-incentive model, which would incent life, property, and casualty insurance companies who are FHLBank members to do more insurance underwriting and investing in fair and affordable housing and community development.
