Public Interest Groups Call on FTC to Investigate Facebook's Messenger Kids Application

Public interest groups, including CFA, sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission asking it to investigate and take enforcement action against Facebook for violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. The groups contend that Facebook’s messaging application for children under 13, Messenger Kids, violates COPPA by collecting personal information from children – some as young as five years old – without obtaining verifiable parental consent or providing parents with clear and complete disclosures of Facebook’s data practices.
